Cultural Heritage and Humanities Unit

The Cultural Heritage and Humanities Unit (CHHU) advances the University's mission to help different peoples of the region preserve and draw upon their rich cultural traditions and heritages as assets for the future through research, documentation, teaching, and public outreach activities. It generates new dialogues on Central Asian heritage and identity, and addresses contemporary cultural production and cultural institutions' issues. CHHU works with a network of regional scholars and cultural practitioners to achieve its goals. Its staff also teach classes in the Liberal Arts programme of the School of Arts and Sciences.

The Cultural Heritage and Humanities Unit (CHHU) was launched in 2013 to generate new dialogues on Central Asian heritage and identity. Its Cultural Heritage Book Series features seminal works on music, traditions, archeology and regional histories, giving voice to regional scholarship. CHHU also engages with communities of interest  to address issues facing contemporary cultural production and cultural institutions while preserving and promoting the cultural heritage of Central Asia.
